J & JPetroleum About Us

HISTORY - Originally operating under the name “Uncle Jim’s Power Steering Stop Leak” from 1970-2000, we have recently reopened and revamped under the name J&J Petroleum, Inc. J&J Petroleum’s Power Steering Stop Leak is an invention born of shear necessity where the original founder, my father and a struggling career firefighter, found his own power steering pump suffering from a significant leak. Six months and countless hours of research later, he emerged with a solution. Not only did it stop the leak permanently, but steering and overall pump performance was noticeably improved. His problem stayed fixed and a quality, highly cost- effective alternative to pump replacement or over-haul had been discovered.

BELIEFS & VALUES - For over 30 years, our power steering stop leak was sold throughout the southern US. My father held a firm belief that it was a responsibility to provide nothing but a quality product to the market place. His greatest asset? YOU, the end consumer, as well as the professional retailer. These beliefs are not only the driving force behind J&J Petroleum today but our solemn promise to you!

SAFETY - J&J Petroleum’s Power Steering Stop Leak is formulated from petroleum distillates and inorganic chemical compounds that are NOT intended for human or animal consumption. If ingested, call Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 and seek medical attention IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING unless instructed to do so by a physician. If exposure to eyes occurs, rinse thoroughly and repeatedly and seek immediate medical attention. For exposure to skin, you should treat the skin with a thorough washing with soap and water.

HOWIT WORKS

Rubber swells when it comes into contact with certain liquids/chemical compounds. Many such compounds cause exposed rubber to either harden or dissolve into a goo like substance which leaves the rubber incapable of fulfilling its intended function as a seal, gasket, o-ring, etc. Other chemicals may cause rubber components to swell uncontrollably, again causing the rubber to become useless for its intended purpose. Another unfortunate result that sometimes occurs is that the rubber will return to its pre-treated size and leaking condition which necessitates either more treatment or a costly pump overhaul or replacement. All of these negative possibilities from the use of unsuitable chemicals in attempt to repair a leaking power steering pump seal CAN and DO happen resulting in an even more serious leak than before as well an expensive repair shop bill after the leak has become too severe to manage.

Many, many months of research, trial and error have gone into finding the most precisely suitable chemicals and formula that, when used according to directions, causes rubber seals to suffer none of the above mentioned negative effects. Although our product will safely and permanently swell rubber seals simply by being thoroughly exposed, when the directions on the bottle are followed and the vehicle is immediately driven for several miles, the power steering pump generates very high temperatures and internal pressures which act to speed up the chemical reactions that occur.

WHATOUR CUSTOMERS Say

  • foto This stuff has always worked great! Just for fun a bunch of us guys poured some J & J's into a bucket, and pitched in different pieces of rubber... a neoprene rubber seal, a piece of inner-tube, a large o-ring and other pieces laying around the shop. By the end of the night every piece had swelled up noticeably except an old piece of mud-flap like you find on an 18-wheeler. The stuff always worked great for me! ~ C.J., Shop Owner, Odessa, TX
  • foto He was using almost a case every 2 weeks! Growing up, I remember a man pulling up into our driveway in a '69 Chevy Cheyenne. He showed us a partly used case of transmission fluid in his truck. He had a leak that was using almost a case of every 2 weeks. Dad told him he really didn’t think the Power Steering Stop Leak would help because of the severity of the leak, but Dad gave him three bottles to try. Three days later the man came back and said, “It took the whole three bottles, but the leak stopped last night!” Dad was just as pleased as the truck owner. ~~ James, the Owner's Son
  • foto The best stop leak product I have EVER used! I kept a '66 Mustang covered up in my garage for almost 18 years. When we finally gassed it up, we discovered the power steering was an issue. Within five minutes of pouring it in, the power steering pump was purring like a cat without a hint of catches or hard spots. Even the medium sized leak went away by the next day after the car had been driven . This is hands down the best stop leak product I have EVER used, and I would recommend it to anybody having problems. ~~ K.M., Mustang Owner & Mechanic Shop Owner

Power SteeringStop Leak THE PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS

PROBLEM

MERELY INCREASING FLUID’S VISCOSITY

Unfortunately, some “Stop Leak” products claiming to swell and restore rubber seals either do not work at all or work just enough to partially fix a minor to moderate leak. This is not accomplished by way of utilizing chemicals that produce a proper, lasting swelling of the rubber seals but achieved by merely increasing the viscosity of the fluid itself.

SOLUTION

Our specially formulated blend of petroleum distillates and chemical compounds are specifically calculated to perform a controlled degree of swelling of the rubber seals without ANY of the negative side effects noted herein.

PROBLEM

CREATING MORE DAMAGE

In some cases, other “Stop Leak” products have been reported to cause even more severe damage to the rubber seal by: 1) Swelling the rubber far beyond its intended shape, 2) Hardening the rubber seal to the point of crystallization 3) Dissolving the rubber seal, creating a worse leak 4) Contaminating the power steering fluid resulting in damage to mechanical parts.

SOLUTION

J & J Petroleum’s thoroughly researched chemical inhibitors act to protect and preserve the mechanical parts of the power steering pump, while others perform as stabilizers and conditioners for the power steering fluid, as well.

PROBLEM

ILL-PERFORMING PRODUCTS

Often these negative results leave only one alternative for the ill-treated power steering system: A trip to the mechanic for a costly pump replacement or overhaul. However, at J&J Petroleum, we believe the real damage is the disservice subjected upon the end consumer through the purchase of products that simply do not perform as promised.

SOLUTION

Our primary goal is to continually improve quality so as to provide our customers with a product that performs exactly as promised while also keeping up with today’s automotive technology.

POWERSTEERING STOP LEAK FAQs

Will J&J Petroleum’s Power Steering Stop Leak fix a leak in my power steering hoses?

No. Our Power Steering Stop Leak is designed to repair leaks caused ONLY by faulty neoprene rubber seals inside the pump. It will not repair leaks in hoses, hose connections or leaks caused by ruptured/cracked power steering pump reservoirs.

Does J&J Petroleum’s Power Steering Stop Leak mix with brake fluid?

No. Some brake fluids destroy the molecular structure of neoprene rubber. This renders the rubber forever incapable of performing its intended function as a leak proof seal within the power steering pump.

How long does it take J&J Petroleum’s Power Steering Stop Leak to repair a leak in my power steering pump?

The length of time it takes for J&J Petroleum’s Power Steering Stop Leak to repair a leak depends mainly on the size of the leak. For best results, it is highly recommended that the vehicle be driven for several miles after pouring the Stop Leak into the pump reservoir. This allows the pump heat and pressure to more efficiently initiate the chemical reaction between the neoprene rubber seals and J&J Petroleum’s Power Steering Stop Leak. Squeals and whines should cease almost instantly. Leaks should either stop completely or diminish greatly within 30-50 driven miles depending on the size of the leak.

Can J&J Petroleum’s Power Steering Stop Leak be used as a preventative measure against leaks, squeals and whines?

No. Although J&J Petroleum’s Power Steering Stop Leak does contain conditioners which may prolong the life of the pumps mechanical parts and rubber seals, it is not recommended to use this product before problems with your pump actually occur.

Can I use J&J Petroleum’s Power Steering Stop Leak to fix leaking seals in my automatic transmission?

No. J&J Petroleum’s Power Steering Stop Leak is specifically designed for power steering systems. Automatic transmissions, as well as the fluids used in them, are very complicated. It is not recommended to use ANY type of product that is not specifically designed for the automatic transmission in your car.
